QuickOffice Editing coming this week?
So, there has been news about Quickoffice document editing coming to the HP TouchPad for some time. Looking at the above screenshot (taken on my HP TouchPad), we see some exciting news! We should see an update to Quickoffice by the “end of the week.”
This update will include Document Editing (probably Word documents), and Spreadsheet editing (presumably Excel). It seems that PowerPoint wont be coming for a little while longer, but hey, you can only ask for so much at a time.
[Rumor] Pre 3 coming August 15th?
We recently posted on Twitter that the Pre 3 would be coming Mid-July. It’s now August 1st and there’s no Pre nor a Touchpad update. So what’s actually going on right now at Palm GBU, who knows?

What we have today is another rumor: John_32 on Twitter tweeted that his supplier had “200+ Pre3′s in stock”, but then corrected himself again by posting this tweet. That screenshot looks really promising, but so did the Pre 3 on Palm’s official website. What’s interesting to note is that it says Palm Pre 3, and not HP Pre 3. The last time anything said Palm Pre 3 was Richard Kerris’ EXIF data when he took a picture with his phone. A later picture with a Pre 3 revealed in the EXIF data that it was now HP.
Take it with a grain of salt just like everything else, but the end of Summer is winding down and there still isn’t even an inch of Pre 3 news. Not like it’s coming to Sprint though, right?
Thanks John_32!
UPDATE: The Touchpad update started rolling out early this morning.
New HP Device Sighting (Rumored Spec Details)
Hi Everyone,
This tip just came in, so I figured I would share with all of you. This new device was seen in the hands of an HP employee.
- Device was about 1/2 the size of a sheet of paper.
- Device was streaming a movie while showing off a very responsive accellerometer.
- Definitely has wifi access. The location they were at has limited wifi, so it was probably running either 3g or 4g. The movie streaming was smooth.
- Besides a movie movie, the HP employee showed off a contacts app.
- Some kind of USB port.
- Had audio input/output for telephony/conferencing.
If you have questions, ask in the comments and I will see what can be done, but no guarantees.
That’s all I have for now (I don’t know if this is a production or testing unit), but file this under rumor for the time being.
Rumors of the coming months from HP/Palm
David over at webOSroundup is reporting a slue of reported rumors around CES and HP/Palm announcements or lack thereof. webOSroundup was contacted by a person(s) claiming to be an HP employee. Below is the readers digest:
- HP/Palm will not be showing any new products at CES 2011.
- HP/Palm are planning their own private event to occur after CES but before Mobile World Congress. This event will take place in New York or Las Vegas.
- HP will be announcing their road map for 2011 at this NY or LV event.
- There will be no new webOS devices to be released on Sprint until June 2011.
- A new webOS device will be a Sprint exclusive and will utilize the Sprint 4G network.
- First gen Pre’s and Pixi’s will get the webOS 2.0 update in March 2011. The order of webOS 2,0 to existing devices is: Sprint, Verizon, and finally AT&T.
- Verizon will get the Pre 2 and it may have either webOS 2.0 or webOS 2.1
I am personally not looking forward to CES if this is in fact true and valid information. As noted in the comments and speaking with several members of the webOS community, it is sad to see several key community members leave for other platforms
. I sure hope not all of the above information is true, because I think I just shed a tear. As wusaint said to me earlier today: “fasten your seatbelt cause the ride is about to get bumpy.”
I’ll try to end on a better note, happy holidays everyone!

More upcoming Palm product leaks – teen phone, keyboard and topaz tablet
Some more tidbits of information leaked out earlier today on Engadget. Since I like lists, here is the important stuff, and oh yeah…. That keyboard is pretty sexy!!! Bring on Topaz!
- The Blue Tooth keyboard is slim and streamlined with Windows and also several webOS specific keys.
- ‘Topaz’ webOS tablet is extremely slick and mirrors the design of the above keyboard.
- ‘Topaz’ webOS tablet is due out in the first half of 2011
- HP/Palm working on a low end webOS smartphone targeted at teens. The device is said to be similar to the current Pre without a keyboard.
- This new teen phone will be available on the big three: AT&T, Verizon and Sprint
What does everyone think? Who’s getting excited???

Rumor: Upcoming Facebook webOS app supports Places (UPDATED)
We all knew Places would come to webOS, we just didn’t know how soon.. Looks like here is some proof it exists. The only thing different from this build is that it doesn’t use the official Places icon like the other apps use as shown below.
Who will use places when it comes to the masses via new Facebook webOS app?
UPDATE: v1.4.53 is now available via the Palm App Catalog – download it here
